Bay House Enters Its Final Chapter

A Coastal Retreat Inspired by Travel, Craftsmanship and Calm, and its almost there.

Wall with arched recessed niches

Bay House is now entering its final stages of construction and the vision that started as a dream is fast becoming a reality. With scaffolding now removed and the finishes taking shape, the home’s beautiful design, unique materials and handcrafted details are beginning to show themselves.

Inspired by Travel, Brought to Life with Detail

The home draws on the client’s global travels, with design elements inspired by boutique retreats and coastal hideaways. This personal influence is felt throughout the interiors, particularly in the bespoke curved niches that soften the space and create moments of calm. Designed in collaboration with interior designers at Base Camp Designs and brought to life by our skilled team using Wedi board, the niches are gently lit with hidden uplighting and designed to house meaningful objects collected from around the world.

Lighting as a Mood-Setter

Lighting has played a key role in the design of Bay House. A variety of fixtures, including uplighters, downlights and carefully placed spotlights, help create mood and dimension across each space. Installed by ADM Electrical and finished with precision by our plasterers and carpenters, including LVB Plastering and Nick Massy Collier the recessed lighting complements the clean architectural lines while adding warmth and sophistication.

A Bathroom That Balances Texture and Tone

Material choices throughout the home have been key to maintaining its sense of quiet luxury. In the bathrooms, a combination of high-quality Porcelanosa tiles and sleek fittings from ABI Interiors offers a refined, spa-like feel. Soft wood tones from Polyrey laminate add depth and texture, whilst understated lighting and subtle curves keep the palette warm, calm and cohesive.

A Unique Approach to Movement Between Spaces

In a playful design twist, the access to the children’s bedrooms features a distinctive step-up platform system rather than traditional staircases. Designed as an informal and tactile way for little ones to move between levels, this creative solution brings a sense of fun and individuality to the upper floor, reflecting the family’s desire for a home that balances practicality with personality. It’s a small detail that makes a big impression and speaks to the bespoke nature of the entire project.

With final landscaping and interior installations underway, Bay House is shaping up to be one of our most refined coastal projects to date, a sanctuary created by our craftsmanship and the serenity of the location and design choices.

We look forward to revealing more as the final touches are completed.

Thinking of building your own coastal home?

Whether you're an architect, designer, or planning your own dream retreat, Perry would be glad to share insights from Bay House and walk you through the details in person.

A Step-by-Step Guide

Hot Tub Spring Clean

The days are getting longer, Spring is on its way! It’s time to prepare your hot tub or swim spa for those outdoor soak sessions. Whether you’ve been maintaining it throughout the winter or it’s been sitting idle, a little bit of TLC can go a long way in ensuring your relaxation oasis is ready for the warmer weather. Here are some essential tips and advice to get your hot tub or swim spa in prime condition for those sunny days ahead:

  1. Start with a deep clean:
Begin by thoroughly cleaning your hot tub or swim spa, inside and out. Drain the water completely, scrub the interior surfaces with a mild cleaner, and rinse thoroughly. Pay attention to the jets, filters, and any crevices where dirt and debris may accumulate. For swim spas, clean the swim current generator and the surrounding areas meticulously.

  2. Check and replace filters:
Inspect the filters for any signs of wear or damage. Replace them if necessary to ensure optimal water filtration. Clean filters improve water circulation and help maintain water clean and clear water, essential for an enjoyable soaking experience.

  3. Test and balance water chemistry:
Test the water chemistry using a reliable testing kit or get your hot tub maintenance company to test it. Balance the pH, alkalinity, and sanitiser levels as per manufacturer recommendations. Properly balanced water prevents bacteria growth and protects equipment.

  4. Inspect and maintain equipment:
Examine all components of your hot tub or swim spa, including pumps, heaters, and electrical connections. Ensure they’re in good working condition and free from any signs of damage or corrosion. If any components don’t work, call a hot tub repair specialist to assess and repair the part.

  5. Clean and condition the cover:
The cover plays a crucial role in retaining heat and keeping debris out of your hot tub or swim spa. Clean the cover with mild detergent and water, and apply a vinyl protectant to prevent fading and deterioration from UV exposure. Check the cover’s insulation for any signs of damage and replace if necessary.

  6. Refill and heat the water:
Once everything is clean and in working order, refill your hot tub or swim spa with fresh water. Allow it to circulate for a few hours to ensure proper mixing and then heat it to your desired temperature. For swim spas, ensure the swim current is functioning correctly.

  7. Establish a maintenance routine:
Consistent maintenance is key to keeping your hot tub or swim spa in top condition. Create a regular maintenance schedule that includes tasks such as checking water chemistry, cleaning filters, and inspecting equipment. Regular upkeep will prolong the life of your investment and ensure uninterrupted enjoyment.

With these tips and advice, you can ensure that your hot tub or swim spa is primed and ready for the warmer weather ahead. By investing a little time and effort into maintenance now, you’ll be rewarded with countless hours of relaxation and enjoyment in your personal oasis.

In coastal construction, resilience is non-negotiable. As the founders of HD Developments, with a deep-rooted background in steel works, we understand the demands of building against the relentless forces of coastal elements. Our commitment to innovation and durability has led us to adopt a transformative approach: steel frame construction.

We think this Is a game-changer in luxury beachfront development. Here’s why:

Steel Frame Construction

Our choice of steel frame construction is a strategic leap forward in coastal development for several reasons:

1. Strength: Steel frames offer unmatched structural robustness. They withstand coastal forces, ensuring long-term strength in the face of environmental pressures.

2. Rapid construction: Efficiency is key. Steel frame construction is quicker than traditional methods, slashing building timelines and costs without compromising quality.

3. On-site construction: The adaptability of steel frames allows for on-site construction, meaning greater control over the building process and ensuring precision.

4. Sustainability: Embracing steel means embracing sustainability. The material is highly recyclable, aligning with our ethos of responsible construction practices.

The Future of Coastal Living

As specialists in luxury coastal properties, we understand that true luxury extends beyond aesthetics – it’s about peace of mind. Steel frame construction embodies this ethos, ensuring that every structure isn’t just beautiful but is a fortress against nature’s forces.

Our commitment to steel frame construction goes beyond innovation; it’s about building a resilient future for coastal living. Our projects are not just about stunning homes but a promise of security for our clients and a shield for our coastal communities amidst a changing climate.

If you’re considering a coastal project that demands durability without compromising on luxury, we’d love to speak with you. We can help you turn your vision into a lasting reality with our expertise in steel frame construction.

In the quest for more room to live, work and play, a bespoke garden room is a versatile and economic solution. It’s the perfect way to extend your home without the hassle of a full-scale extension, whether you’re dreaming of a sunlit studio for your art, a serene home office, a garden bar for weekend relaxation, or a space to remove teenagers and children to!

The benefits of building a garden room:

Additional space: A garden room offers a sanctuary steps away from your main residence. It’s a multipurpose area that can adapt to your evolving lifestyle and needs.

Cost-effectiveness: When compared to traditional home extensions (which are escalating rapidly), garden rooms present a financially savvy alternative. They offer the added bonus of a shorter construction timeline. Plus they are portable so if you move there’s no reason you can’t pick up your garden room and take it with you!

Property value: Adding a garden room is an investment that pays dividends, enhancing the appeal and market value of your property.

Bespoke garden room construction by HD Living Group:

Our garden rooms are completely bespoke, meaning we can design them for any purpose and to suit any budget. What’s more, they’re portable! Our unique garden room design features a steel frame base which means they can be made off-site and craned into position.

Our sustainable and economic construction techniques mean there’s no need for your garden room to have concrete foundations. By utilising a blend of 6×2″ and 4×2″ treated timber, our frames promise longevity and strength. This fusion of classic and contemporary techniques ensures your garden room stands the test of time.

A cozy retreat requires quality insulation; that’s why we employ house-grade foil-backed materials to keep your space snug and energy-efficient. Topped with professional roof coverings like felt, EPDM, or GRP, your garden room remains weatherproof and inviting through all seasons.

Personalisation lies at the heart of our garden rooms. Choose from an array of high-quality French, Sliding, or Bi-Fold doors to add that personal touch to your space. Our windows and doors are not just fixtures but statements of quality, designed to bathe your room in natural light and provide unyielding durability.

Why Autumn is the perfect time to start:

Our garden rooms can take as little as two weeks to construct and complete from sign-off of the design. Initiating the project now ensures your space is ready for winter, providing a cozy hideaway or a festive entertainment spot.
